Today, the Toronto Dingos are banding together for one final challenge in 2024, to take on mental health, suicide, prostate cancer and testicular cancer by raising money for the Movember Foundation.
Led by the Toronto Dingos Mental Health Ambassadors, a team of Dingos are growing out their soup strainer, or, moving 60km+ throughout the month of November to help raise money and awareness for men's health
Mental Health Ambasador, James Talbot, reminisced on his first Movember experience, and how his motivation to take part in the event has changed over the years:
"2015 was my first Movember and I took part more for the fun of growing a Mo and annoy girlfriend at the time. The more I asked what the Mo was about, the more I realised that I needed to understand what Movember was all about."
Adding:
"Men’s Health, like many other health and social issues are severely underfunded across the globe. Therefore in order to make a difference to the lives of men who are struggling projects need to be funded.
Everyone knows the terrible statistics related to male suicide, or the impact of prostrate and testicular cancer on males, so any projects that can help support are worthy of funding."
The Dingos have set a goal to raise $6,000 by the end of the month, but will be looking to smash that and raise as much money, and awareness, as possible throughout the month taking advantage of our various platforms to do so.
Speaking to the month-long event, Mental Health Ambassador, Michael Beda said:
“Though the means of how you grow the Mo or choose to fundraise is up to the individual, we as a club will try to cohesively band together to provide weekly photo updates, fitness movements, and stories about the importance of balancing both physical and mental health.
With the club awards night in the middle of the month and a potential pub night on the final day of November, we will combine both actions with words to be seen and heard."
Talking to how the club is tackling these issues and raising awareness both inside our four walls and eternally, Beda added:
"This club has efficiently been able to balance serious competitiveness with light-hearted familial bonds. Taking part in an initiative that is for a serious subject while exhibiting yourself in a fun and positive way by growing a Mo works hand in hand with how we operate as a club.”
The Toronto Dingos welcome any donation, big or small, to either the Dingos team, or, the wider Movember movement and would like to thank all the members for your support!
