Brayden Beks, AFL Ontario Best & Fairest Winner, Honoured In Local Aussie Newspaper

As the saying goes, good news travels fast, and the recent news of Dingos midfielder Brayden Bek's triumph at the AFL Ontario Awards night has already made the local papers some 16,500kms away.

Beksy capped off what was already a stellar night for the Toronto Dingos, taking home the Daimin Bodnar (Best & Fairest) Medal for the 2024 AFL Ontario season.

Local newspaper "The Standard" got exclusive access to Beksy's brother, Shannon, who finished second in the Hampden league goal-kicking award, and commented on Brayden's behalf:

"He won the league best and fairest and they have the trophy with all the previous winners and he's the second person from Warrnambool to win it. Dean Gavin won it a few years ago. It's pretty cool for Warrnambool to have that."1

Beksy is the first Dingo since Craig Stewart in 2004 to win the prestigious award, tallying a total of 15 votes in the shorter 8 game season to take home the award, and the honour was definitely not lost on him:

"I never thought I would be playing Australian Rules Football in Ontario Canada, let alone standing out here in front of a room full of awesome people celebrating something like this. It's really, really special."

Beksy was also grateful for the strong bonds and help he had received from the Dingos community, which welcomed him and his fiancé Annie with open arms and assisted them in finding accommodation, work and most importantly building a network of friends and "family" in a new country.

Beksy and the Toronto Dingos will now be turning their focus to finals footy, where they will have the chance to play for a spot in the 2024 AFL Ontario Grand Final on Saturday September 7th.
