The Dingos are champing at the bit to kick off the 2024 AFL Ontario season against last years Premiers, The Toronto Rebels, this Saturday at Humber South at 11am.
The Rebels will be out to prove they are still the top dogs after beating us in last year’s Grand Final. But with new players, more talent and a dedicated pre-season, the playing group is confident the work they’ve put in will get rewarded.
The Dingos will welcome a host of debutants for this round 1 matchup, including Brayden Beks from Warrnambool, James Talbot who has represented the Great Britain national team, and Barrat Ludovic who is playing for France in the Trans-Atlantic Cup in August.
But, most notably the Dingos are proud to announce the debut of 17-year-old Zach Shaw, the son of Dingos legend Tim.
Last year, Zach played in his father’s memorial game with Cam Wallis (son of another Dingo legend, Stu) and both boys dominated. We’re excited to see him pull on the red and black jersey. And he's itching to get out there.
Last Time They Met... The Rebels ran away with the 2023 AFL Ontario Premiership, defeating the Dingos 11.9 (75) to 4.5 (29). Despite the score line, the game was a bruising affair with only a goal or two separating the teams in the first half. However, the Rebels were able to shift into another gear late in the third quarter and see off a spirited Dingos side to claim the premiership.
