Blustery conditions greeted the Toronto Dingos & Toronto Eagles for their round two match up, where the Dingos walked away 05.13 (43) to 1.0 (6) this afternoon.
The Eagles got off to a fast start, fresh from their round one bye and keen to kick off their 2025 season, holding the Dingos goalless in the first quarter whilst capitalizing on an Dingo error in the back half to kick the first goal of the game. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this would be their only score of the game as the Dingos wrestled control of the game.
With the wind in their backs, the Dingos started to get their game rolling in the second quarter, barely allowing the ball to cross the halfway line. Dingos forward Ben Sinclair, playing his first game for the season, opened the Dingos goal-scoring account for the day as the Dingos took an 11-point lead into the main break.
French National, Ludo Barrat, had his name written all over the ball in the second half as he took over the game in the midfield and got in and under the packs to get the ball back into Dingo hands. This effort partnered with first-gamer Lachlan Barazza patrolling the half-back line and repelling Eagle attacks, keeping the opposition to their single goal despite having the advantage of the wind.
Backman-turned-forward Bradley Wooten got on the board first his first goal of the season, alongside his good friend Chris Jepsen, to extend the Dingos lead to 28-points at the final break.
The conditions did not let up all game, and the last quarter began to mirror the first with the ball spending a lot of time in the middle, and plenty of stoppages to go around. Eagle attacks continued to be repelled by the stingy Dingos defense, with winger Michael Ladd connecting the back lines efforts with the forward line and sending the ball deep into Dingos attack.
Goals: B. Sinclair (3), C. Jepsen & B. Wooten
Best: M. Ladd, L. Barrat, B. Sinclair, A. Chambers & J. Talbot
