The Dingos braved tough conditions to claim a 9.8.62 - 2.5.17 victory over the Toronto Rebels to open the 2024 AFL Ontario season!
The Dingos were firing on all cylinders to start the game, with the midfield of Brayden Beks, James Talbot, and Zach Shaw able to ensure the forward line had plenty of possession. Scoring opportunities came often with Rob McNaughton, Ludo Barrat, and Ben Sinclair getting the first goals of 2024. A massive defensive effort from Harry Shelton helped the Dingos keep the Rebels scoreless in the opening quarter.
The Rebels would gain some momentum as they picked up two goals early in the 2nd quarter. As the rain continued to pour down, the thunder and lightning began and the game saw its first weather delay.
When play resumed the Dingos quickly restored the 3 goal lead thanks to McNaughton and Brayden Beks. The thunder returned and another weather delay ended the half early, with the second half to consist of two 24 minute quarters to make up the lost time.
The Dingos attack would continue in the third as McNaughton completed his hattrick and Luke Cody nabbed his first goal as a Dingo!
The sun would come out in the 4th quarter, but the goals continued to rain down. Cody added his second before Beks capped off his Black Lab Man of the Match performance with the Dingos 9th goal of the game!
The Dingos (1-0-0) will have a bye week in round 2 before meeting the Toronto Eagles (0-0-0) in round 3.
